The Bluefin tuna, native to the Atlantic shores and the Mediterranean Sea, can grow to impressive sizes, reaching over 300 kg and sometimes exceeding 600 kg. Japan has traditionally been the primary destination for Mediterranean Bluefin tuna, although global demand has surged in recent years. To regulate Bluefin tuna fishing, an oversight system is enforced by ICCAT (International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas).
Due to insufficient catches to meet demand, a farming method has emerged involving capture by purse-seine fleets. These tunas are then transferred to offshore farms for fattening, ensuring optimal fat infiltration. Their diet typically consists of oily fish like sardines or mackerel.
